Today’s theme is Sign languages for all deaf learners. It is important to ensure that children, youth and adults get information in their first language, Auslan.
According to the World Federation of the Deaf’s data, under 2 percent of children receive a bilingual education. This number is incredibly low. Many deaf children have families that cannot use sign language.
We, as a community have a responsibility to support those people to learn Auslan so they can achieve full inclusion and accessibility which will lead to positive outcomes in their lives.
